What does your "per concurrent user" licensing mean?

A single license permits the use of IntelliJ IDEA by a single user at a time. For multiple concurrent sessions you must purchase multiple licenses.

How does the IntelliJ IDEA license work?

Each IntelliJ IDEA license is associated with a unique key-code registered under your user name that allows you to access the software.

My company will have multiple developers using IntelliJ IDEA. Should we license IntelliJ IDEA to each developer personally?

If you are purchasing IntelliJ IDEA for a company, you should register all your licenses in the company name. That way, no personal registration is required and any employee or contractor can use one of your company-registered licenses. Can I use IntelliJ IDEA with the same license at work and at home?

A licensed user can run IntelliJ IDEA on different computers, regardless of location, provided that IntelliJ IDEA is not run concurrently on more than one computer. For example, you can run IntelliJ IDEA on your workstation at the office, OR on your laptop at home. But if you bring your laptop to the office, you may NOT run IntelliJ IDEA on both your laptop AND your workstation at the same time.

Can I run IntelliJ IDEA on different operating systems with the same license?

Do you offer floating or site licenses to companies?

Companies with over 20 IntelliJ IDEA licensed users across a single network may request a free copy of the IntelliJ IDEA license server which supports a floating license model. For details, please contact us.

Can we continue using the license of a developer who is no longer with our company?

Do you apply cumulative pricing to volume purchases?

We are a non-commercial organization. Do we qualify for an academic license?

No. Non-profit companies fall under regular commercial licensing.

What is the difference between an academic and a commercial license?

Academic licenses are only available to students and teaching staff of educational institutions. Use of a fully-functional version of IntelliJ IDEA under an academic license is restricted to educational purposes. For more information, see the Academic License Agreement.

A commercial license may be used for personal or commercial development.

What will happen with my academic license when I have graduated from my educational institution?

You can switch your academic license to a commercial license by upgrading to a current version of IntelliJ IDEA at the commercial upgrade price. To switch to a commercial license, please contact us.

Can I transfer my license?

No. Use of the software is restricted to a licensed customer with no right to transfer. Companies and organizations can only move their licenses between employees and contractors.

Do I need to renew my IntelliJ IDEA license?

Your license is perpetual to the purchased IntelliJ IDEA version. No renewal is required.

How often should I upgrade my IntelliJ IDEA license?

Only major releases of IntelliJ IDEA require upgrades. Upgrades are optional and they are 40% off the full license price.

What are the evaluation license restrictions?

An evaluation license is designed for a 30-day trial of the software. You can only use the software for testing purposes during your trial.
