IntelliJ IDEA parses the output and displays it in a convenient format in the Messages window, letting you navigate to the source of the problem whenever possible.

Toolbar buttons

Item Tooltip and shortcut Description
img Rerun Ctrl+F5 Click this button to rerun compilation.
pauseIcon Pause output Click this button to pause the compilation process. This button is enabled when compilation is in progress.
img Stop Click this button to terminate compilation. This button is enabled when compilation is in progress.
img Close Ctrl+Shift+F4 Click this button to terminate the process and close the console.

Ctrl+Alt+Up
Ctrl+Alt+Down
Navigate to the previous/next message.
img Export to Text File
Alt+O
Save the current console contents. In the Export dialog, specify the target file or copy information to the Clipboard. Before saving, you can also edit the information to be saved.
toggleTextTree Toggle tree/text mode If this button is pressed, the output is displayed as plain text.
If this button is released, the output is displayed as a tree view.
showAllMessages Show all messages When this button is pressed, the only error messages are displayed.

Collapse all
Ctrl+NumPad -
Click this button to have all nodes expanded or collapsed.
img Hide warnings When this button is pressed, the tree of messages shows error messages only.
img Autoscroll to source If this button is pressed, the file that contains the selected error automatically opens in the editor, with the caret at the appropriate line.
settings Compiler properties Configure the compiler settings.
help Help Use this button to navigate to help topics.

Results context menu

Item Shortcut Description
Jump to source F4 Navigate to the selected item in the editor.
Copy Ctrl+C Take the line at caret to the clipboard.
Exclude from Compile Skip the erroneous line in the next compilation.
Exclude from Validation Choose this command to omit this warning in the next compilation.
