A project for Java Mobile application development, as any other project in IntelliJ IDEA, can be created from scratch. However, a Java Mobile project requires a special mobile SDK such as WTK or DoJa.

To create a Java Mobile project
  1. If no project is currently open in IntelliJ IDEA, click Create New Project on the Welcome screen. Otherwise, select New Project from the File menu.

As a result, the New Project wizard opens.

  2. On the first page of the wizard, in the left-hand pane, select J2ME Module.
  3. In the right-hand part of the page, specify the project name and location.
  4. Select the desired Mobile SDK from the Project SDK list.

If the list is empty or doesn't contain the SDK that you need, click New and select the installation folder of the required Mobile SDK in the dialog that opens.

  5. Specify other settings as necessary and click Next.
  6. On the next page of the wizard, specify whether you want to create a directory for your source code.
  7. On the next page of the wizard, specify a Mobile SDK for the module. If you don't want to use the project SDK, click Configure and select the installation folder of the required Mobile SDK in the dialog that opens.
  8. On the next page of the wizard, specify mobile SDK-specific options, and click Finish.
