Some features described here are available in Ultimate edition only.

To develop a Java mobile application, you need a project with a J2ME module.

To create a project with a J2ME module
  1. If no project is currently open in IntelliJ IDEA, click Create New Project on the Welcome screen. Otherwise, select New Project from the File menu.

As a result, the New Project wizard opens.

  2. On the first page of the wizard, in the left-hand pane, select J2ME.
  3. In the right-hand part of the page, specify the project name and location.
  4. Select the desired Mobile SDK from the Project SDK list.

If the list is empty or doesn't contain the SDK that you need, click New and select the installation folder of the required Mobile SDK in the dialog that opens.

If by this time no JDK is defined in IntelliJ IDEA, you'll get a message reading You need to configure a Java SDK first. If this is the case, click OK in the message box, and then select the installation directory of the JDK to be used in the dialog that opens. Then specify the installation directory of your Mobile SDK.

  5. Specify other settings as necessary and click Next.
  6. On the next page of the wizard, specify mobile SDK-specific options, and click Finish.
