The IDEtalk tool window enables you to exchange instant messages and perform code-related communications from within IntelliJ IDEA. Communication session with each user on your contact list takes place in a separate tab in the IDEtalk Messages tool window.

Prerequisites

Note

Before you start working with IDEtalk, make sure that IDEtalk plugin is enabled.

The plugin is bundled with IntelliJ IDEA and activated by default. If it is not, enable the plugin.

settingsButton Click this button to reveal a drop-down menu that enables you to:
User status iconRefer to the User Status table for details.
expandAllClick these buttons to expand all closed group nodes.
collapseAllClick these buttons to collapse all group nodes.

User status icons

IconMeaning
Icon User is registered on the local network and is online
Icon User in registered on the local network and is away
Icon User is connected via Jabber and is online
Icon User is connected via Jabber and is away

Context menu commands

ItemDescription
Send message/stacktraceChoose this command to initiate exchanging information with the selected user.
Send code pointer to <user>Choose this command to send a pointer to a specific piece of code to the selected user. Note that the user should have access to the file in question.
Show diff with <user>'s versionChoose this command to compare your local version of a certain file with that of the selected user on your contact list.
View open filesChoose this command to request permission to view files opened by the selected user. This command is enabled for online users only.
Message historyChoose this command to show message history for the selected user.
Selected user can read my filesCheck this option to allow the selected users to view the files opened for editing in your IntelliJ IDEA session.
Change nicknameChoose this command to initiate in-place editor and change the local nickname.
DeleteRemove the selected user from the contact list.

img Click this button to find a text string in the message history of the selected user.

Context menu commands

ItemDescription
Clear allRemove contents from the message history.
Copy contentTake the content of the message history to the Clipboard.
Compare with clipboardChoose this command to compare the contents of the message history for the current user with the contents of the Clipboard. Both files open in the Differences Viewer for Files.
