Context-initialization parameters enable a servlet to perform during the initialization various one-time activities that impact the entire application.

To define a context parameter
  1. Open web.xml and switch to the Assembly Descriptor tab.
  2. In the Context Parameters pane, click add.
  3. Type the name, value, and description of the new context parameter in the relevant text boxes.
  4. To remove a parameter, select the relevant row and click delete.
