ReSharper may use your Internet connection for several purposes.

Normally, no additional firewall configuration is needed to allow ReSharper access to the Internet. In case of any difficulties, you may need to adjust your firewall to allow the devenv.exe access to the Internet.

ReSharper can detect and download newer versions

To disable or enable this option, use the Download the list of available updates check-box in the Updates page of ReSharper options. (ReSharper | Options | Environment | Updates)

Sending out anonymous feedback

ReSharper can collect and send out anonymous feedback that helps us improve your deployment experiences in the future.

To disable or enable this option, use the Participate anonymously in the ReSharper Feedback program check-box in the ReSharper Feedback page of ReSharper options. (ReSharper | Options | Environment | ReSharper Feedback)

Downloading PDBs from symbol servers

This may be necessary for Navigating to Compiled Code and to Navigate to Sources from Symbol Files.

To disable or enable this option, use the Allow downloading from remote locations check-box in the External Sources page of ReSharper options. (ReSharper | Options | Tools | External Sources)

Verifying license information

This is necessary for both personal licenses and licenses from the License Server. For more information, see Specifying License Information.
