# Agent integrations

> For the complete documentation index, see [llms.txt](https://www.jetbrains.com/help/air/llms.txt).

Air Context integrates into your AI coding agents through components that the `jbcontext setup-agent` command installs: usage instructions, skills, a subagent, hooks, an MCP server, and, for OpenAI Codex, execution-policy rules. The integrations are open source and published in the [JetBrains/context](https://github.com/JetBrains/context) repository on GitHub.

For the command and its options, see [jbcontext setup-agent](context-cli-reference.html#ref-setup-agent).

## Supported agents

`jbcontext setup-agent` sets up the following agents:

* Claude Code

* OpenAI Codex

* Junie CLI

* Any other agent, with `--agent generic`: the command installs the usage instructions and the `context-search` skill into the current project.

Air Teams comes with built-in Air Context support, and Air in IDEs uses the CLI installation. Both are described in [Where you can use Air Context](air-context.html#where-to-use).

## Installed components

By default, `jbcontext setup-agent` installs the recommended bundle of components for the agent you choose. The following table shows what each agent gets by default. To install only specific components, pass the corresponding options of `setup-agent`, listed in the last column.

| Component | What it does | Installed by default for | Option |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Instructions | Air Context usage instructions added to the agent's instructions file. | All agents | `--instructions` |
| Skills | Task-oriented instructions that teach the agent when and how to query Air Context instead of manual exploration, such as `context-search` for a semantic search. See [Skills](#skills). | All agents except OpenAI Codex | `--skills` |
| Subagent | The `context-explorer` subagent: a read-only exploration agent that runs multiple semantic searches in an isolated context and returns file and line references with snippets. | Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and Junie CLI | `--subagents` |
| Session hooks | Hooks that incrementally refresh an existing index when an agent session starts or ends. | Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and Junie CLI | Included with the default set; `--no-session-hooks` skips them |
| Tool-watching hooks |  Optional tool-watching reminder hooks.   | Not installed by default | `--hooks` |
| MCP server | The Air Context MCP server with tools for searching the index, registered in the agent's MCP configuration. | Claude Code | `--mcp-minimal` registers the server; `--mcp` also switches the instructions to prefer MCP tools |
| Execution-policy rules | Rules that let OpenAI Codex run the read-only Air Context query commands without asking you for approval each time. | OpenAI Codex | `--rules` |

## Setup options

Besides selecting components, `jbcontext setup-agent` has options that change how the components are installed:

* `--strong` installs instructions that strongly prioritize semantic search over grep-style text search.

* `--scope project` installs the components for the current project only instead of for the current user.

## Skills

`jbcontext setup-agent` installs the [context-search](https://github.com/JetBrains/context/tree/main/skills/context-search) skill, which runs a semantic search over the codebase.

The [JetBrains/context](https://github.com/JetBrains/context) repository also contains skills that `setup-agent` doesn't install. You can add them to your agent manually:

context-research
: Deep exploration of a codebase using Air Context searches. See [context-research](https://github.com/JetBrains/context/tree/main/skills/context-research) on GitHub.

context-review
: Reviews code changes, using semantic search to understand their context and impact. See [context-review](https://github.com/JetBrains/context/tree/main/skills/context-review) on GitHub.

context-install
: Installs the Air Context CLI. See [context-install](https://github.com/JetBrains/context/tree/main/skills/context-install) on GitHub.

## Update or remove integrations

`jbcontext upgrade` updates the CLI and refreshes the installed agents' skills, hooks, and instructions to match the new version. To uninstall the integration components from an agent, run `jbcontext remove-agent`.
