dotMemory Web Help

By default, your starting point in dotMemory is the Home page. Here you can start new profiling sessions or open the recent ones.

To start profiling of an application:
  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the menu bar, choose File | Profile. The Profile dialog box opens. Select an application type, then click OK or just double-click the desired application type.
    • Click Profile on the Home tab. Click an application type in the list.

    The Profiler Configuration dialog box opens.
  2. Configure profiling settings in the Profiler Configuration dialog box as described in Configuring Profiling Process.
  3. Click Run.
To start profiling of an already running application:
  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the menu bar, choose File | Profile. The Profile dialog box opens. Select Attach to Process, then click OK.
    • Click Attach to Process on the Home tab.

    The Profiler Configuration dialog box opens.
  2. Click on a process you want to profile in the Proceses list. Only processes running on .NET Framework 4.0 or higher are displayed and available to attach.

    Note

    1. If a process you are looking for is missing, click Refresh to update the list of processes or restart dotMemory as administrator to see more processes running in the system.
    2. dotMemory is unable to collect creation stack traces and traffic information when profiling attached processes.
  3. Click Run.

Warning

dotMemory takes privileges into account. Thus, it works only with those processes that can be reached according to the rights of the current user account.
If a process you are looking for is missing, restart dotMemory as administrator. This will allow you to see more processes running in the system.
