IntelliJ IDEA 13.1.0 Web Help

In the Editor settings, you can configure the editor's behavior related to the paired elements (braces, brackets, tags, etc.)

When the Insert pair } check box and Insert pair %> on Enter in JSP check boxes are selected, the closing character is automatically added with indent upon pressing . The indentation level is defined in the Code Style settings.

As for paired brackets, parentheses, and quotes, the closing element is added automatically after you type the opening bracket or quote. When an opening element is deleted, the closing one is deleted too.

To configure insertion of paired elements
  1. Open the IDE Settings, and under the Editor node, click Smart Keys.

  2. Configure automatic insertion of paired elements by selecting the following check boxes:
    • Insert pair bracket
    • Insert pair quote
    • Automatically insert closing tag
    • Insert pair %> in JSP
  3. To have the closing braces inserted upon pressing , select the Insert pair } check box.
