IntelliJ IDEA 2019.2 Help

Akka support

You can successfully add the Akka support to your project. The easiest way is to use the sbt project. Alternatively, you can use the Lightbend project starter if you want to work with the existing Akka templates. IntelliJ IDEA supports the latest stable Akka version.

Add the Akka support to a project

  1. Create or open an sbt project in IntelliJ IDEA.
  2. Open the build.sbt file in the editor.

  3. Add the following code to build.sbt:

    libraryDependencies += "com.typesafe.akka" %% "akka-actor" % "2.3.8"

  4. If you need, re-import the changes made to the build.sbt file.

IntelliJ IDEA starts supporting the Akka code, and you can develop your application further the same you do any other project.

Akka coding assistance

IntelliJ IDEA supports code completion, inspections when you work with Akka code.

  • IntelliJ IDEA finds the code parts that could be simplified and displays a hint with suggestion.

    For example, see the following code:
    import akka.actor._ abstract class Foo extends AbstractActor object Foo { def props: Props = Props(classOf[Foo]) }
    import akka.actor._ abstract class Foo extends AbstractActor object Foo { def props: Props = Props(new Foo()) }
