JetBrains Central Console eap Help

Groups

Groups are a way to manage users in your organization at scale. Instead of assigning roles and policies for individual users, you can manage them in groups according to teams and responsibilities.

The Groups page lists both groups created in your organization and those synced from an external identity provider.

  • Local groups are those that you create in JetBrains Central Console.

In the list, the Source of such groups is JetBrains Central.

You can delete local groups, manage their members, and assign roles and permissions.

  • Synced groups are those imported from an external identity provider.

In the list, the Source of such groups is the name of the identity provider.

You can assign roles and permissions for synced groups, but you can't delete them and manage the list of members.

Create groups

  1. In the sidebar, under Users and access, select Groups.

If you don't see this page, your role doesn't have the necessary permissions.

  2. In the top-right corner of the screen, click New group.

  3. In the New group dialog, specify a name for the group.

Optionally, also provide a description to clarify the purpose of the group.

If necessary, specify another group as the parent of the group you are creating. In this case, members of the new group will also be members of the parent group.

  4. Click Create group.

View group details

  1. In the sidebar, under Users and access, select Groups.

If you don't see this page, your role doesn't have the necessary permissions.

  2. Click the group name in the list.

  3. On the group's configuration page, open the Group details tab.

For local groups, you can see and edit the name, description, and parent group.

For synced groups, you can only see the group's details and the name of the corresponding identity provider.

Manage group members

  1. In the sidebar, under Users and access, select Groups.

If you don't see this page, your role doesn't have the necessary permissions.

  2. Click the Members counter of the group.

Alternatively, you can click the group name and open the Members tab on the group's configuration page.

On this page, you can add and remove members from the group.

  • Click Add member and select the user you want to add to the group.

  • Click the X icon to remove a user from the group.

Manage group permissions

You can define permissions for members of a group by assigning or removing roles. Each role includes a set of permissions that defines the access rights and allowed actions.

  1. In the sidebar, under Users and access, select Groups.

If you don't see this page, your role doesn't have the necessary permissions.

  2. Сlick the Ellipsis icon menu next to the group and select Change permissions.

Alternatively, click the group's name and open the Roles and permissions tab on the group details page.

The Change permissions dialog shows the roles assigned to the group and the combined set of permissions members of this group have based on these roles. When assigning a group-scoped role, select the groups to which the relevant permissions should apply. For example, you can assign a role allowing members of your department analytics group to view AI analytics of several specific product development groups.

    • Assign a role by clicking Assign role and selecting a role from the list.

To create a new role, select New role from the Assign role menu.

    • Remove a role by clicking Remove role icon next to the role you want to remove.

To change permissions for multiple groups, select the checkboxes next to the groups, click Assign role at the bottom, and select the role you want to assign.

  2. Click ... next to the group and select Delete group.

Alternatively, you can click the group name to open the group's configuration page and then click Delete group there.
