# Save topic as template If you often write content with some specific structure, you can create your own custom template to quickly add topics based on this template. For example, this can be useful for common types of topics with repetitive content, such as release notes and references of commands. Procedure: * Right-click any topic in the Table of Contents pane of the Writerside tool window and select Save as Template. The created template will appear in the topic templates list. You can [customize](#customize-templates) it if necessary. For more information about using templates, see [Create a topic from template](add-a-topic.html#create-from-template). Procedure: Customize templates 1. In the Table of Contents pane of the Writerside tool window, select the node to which you want to add the new topic and click . 2. Select Topic from Template. 3. In the Create Topic from Template dialog, click Edit templates. 4. In the `Editor | File and Code templates` page of the settings, open the Files tab, find the template you want to customize and change its contents. > **Note:** > Be careful not to break the markup elements as in this view you do not have any validation or assistance. 5. Click OK to save changes to the template.
