The elements and deployment settings of a Web application are defined in the Web module deployment descriptor web.xml, which is created automatically when you enable Web application support for a module.

Note

For the sake of consistency with the User Interface, the module deployment descriptors are also referred to asAssembly Descriptors.

With IntelliJ IDEA, you can edit the deployment descriptor files in the dedicated editor. IntelliJ IDEA generates code in web.xml based on the settings you specify in the tabs of this editor. Alternatively, you can always use Text tab of the editor, and edit the source code manually, using the powerful IntelliJ IDEA coding assistance.
