User management
JetBrains Account
JetBrains Account is the central system JetBrains uses for user authentication, license storage, and identity management. Anyone who uses JetBrains products has a JetBrains Account, whether for personal or company-provided resources.
The main purpose of JetBrains Console is to let organizations manage user access to company resources like product licenses or AI quotas purchased from JetBrains. While JetBrains Console has its own user management system, at the end, all provided resources are assigned to specific JetBrains Accounts. This means every user in JetBrains Console must either have a JetBrains Account or will be prompted to create one.
Organizations
In JetBrains Console, all resources are organized around companies called organizations. An organization represents your company’s relationship with JetBrains, including its users and purchased resources. Each organization has a separate JetBrains Console instance and a unique URL in the format console.jetbrains.cloud/org/<organization-UUID>.
Organizations are managed by users with admin roles. The most important role is the Organization admin, who has full control over users, licenses, and other settings. There can be multiple organization admins.
If you purchase a commercial JetBrains license using your JetBrains Account and no organization for your company exists yet, JetBrains Console will automatically create a new organization for you and grant you the organization admin role. For details, see Roles.
Organization users
In JetBrains Console, organizations don't manage JetBrains Accounts directly. Instead, when an administrator adds a user to their organization, JetBrains Console creates an organization user.
This user is linked to a JetBrains Account. If the invited person doesn't have a JetBrains Account yet, they'll be asked to create one before they can access any assigned resources.
If a user is removed from the organization, their JetBrains Account stays active. It can still be used for personal licenses or for joining other organizations. If they are added to another organization, a new organization user will be created for them there.
As a result, one JetBrains Account can be connected to multiple organization users across different organizations. These users may have different names, roles, and resources, but they all map to the same email address and login.
Changes made to an organization user, for example, editing their name, affect only that organization. They don't update the user's JetBrains Account.
So, in JetBrains Console, you manage only organization users. Every user is connected to a JetBrains Account, but JetBrains Console never modifies JetBrains Accounts directly.
Access and roles
JetBrains Console is designed for administrative use only. Access is strictly role-based – only users with assigned roles can log in to the console. To log in to the console, you should use your JetBrains Account.
