Converting to a shared pool of AI credits

Previously, access to AI-powered features required assigning licenses with AI to users. AI credits included in those licenses were tied to a specific user (AI quota). Unused credits expired every month when the subscriptions were renewed. Every license with AI could also include an additional allocation of AI credits (top-up AI credits) purchased separately.

In the new model, organizations have a shared pool of AI credits and admins grant or revoke AI access independent of licenses. Every user with AI access can spend AI credits from this pool within the limits set by the admin.

This eliminates waste from uneven usage across your organization. During the transition, JetBrains converts your organization's existing AI credits from licenses, AI access settings, and limits to the new model. The goal of this transition is to preserve your current access configuration as closely as possible and ensure the amount of AI credits available to your organization remains the same.

AI credits

In the new model, there is a pool of AI credits shared across the organization. During the transition, JetBrains aggregates existing AI quotas from licenses with AI and top-up AI credits and adds them to this shared pool. Credits added to the organization balance accumulate monthly and expire after one year.

The following AI credit rates apply during migration for different license types:

License

AI credits per month

AI Ultimate

70 AI credits

AI Pro

20 AI credits

All Products Pack

20 AI credits

dotUltimate

20 AI credits

AI Free (included with every active IDE license)

3 AI credits

Example

Consider an organization with the following licenses:

  • 100 × All Products Pack (each with 20 monthly AI credits)

  • 50 × PyCharm licenses with AI Free plan (each with 3 monthly AI credits)

This converts to a combined monthly shared pool of 2,150 AI credits per month:

(100 licenses × 20 credits) + (50 licenses × 3 credits)

If the licenses are valid for the next 6 months, JetBrains will transfer 12,900 AI credits immediately:

2,150 AI credits × 6 months

Upon renewal of licenses, the organization will continue to receive 2,150 AI credits per month.

AI credit limits

AI credit limits will depend on how you had AI access enabled in your organization:

  • If you had AI access disabled, it will remain disabled for the whole organization, so there will be no custom credit limits configured for users.

  • If you had AI access enabled only for users with specific licenses from teams, their personal AI credit limit will be equal to the sum of the quota in their license and the top-up limit configured for them.

For users with AI Free licenses, the limit will be 3 AI credits.

The organization's default AI credit limit applied to users added after migration will be set to the number of AI credits included with an AI Pro license plus the previous default top-up limit.

  • If you had AI access enabled for everyone in your organization, existing users will receive the same limits as in the previous case: sum of the quota in their license and the top-up limit configured for them.

For users with AI Free licenses, the limit will be 3 AI credits.

The default limit for newly added users will also be set to 3 AI credits.

After migration, an organization admin can change both the default AI credit limit and individual AI credit limits of every user.

AI access settings

Depending on how you had AI access enabled in your organization, one of the following will apply:

  • If you had AI access disabled, it will remain disabled for the whole organization.

  • If you had AI access enabled only for users with specific licenses from teams, only users with AI-enabled licenses will get AI access granted to them after migration. All other users, including new users that you add to the organization, will not automatically get AI access.

  • If you had AI access enabled for everyone in your organization, all users will get AI access granted to them after migration. New users will also get AI access as soon as you add them to your organization.

New organizations

New organizations created after the introduction of the new model will have AI access enabled for all users by default.

The default monthly AI credit limit for users of new organizations will be 20 AI credits.

Individual trials

Previously, some organization users with AI Free access could request an individual AI license trial if they met the trial eligibility criteria.

Since AI access is no longer based on individual AI licenses in the new model, the trial experience will change. We will provide updated trial rules separately.
