CLion

The IDE for professional C and C++ development

Work with any OS, toolchain, and agent.
The choice is yours.

One place to run agents and verify their work,
with jetbrains air

Run multiple agents at once without re-explaining state or codebase context. Debugging, testing, and profiling are always one click away, and code comments go straight back to the agent for it to act on.

Deterministic tools for you and your agents

CLion provides you and your agents with consistent, reliable tools for C and C++ development. It helps your agents use fewer tokens and make fewer wrong turns. Agents can also step into the debugger (GDB, LLDB, or a debugger connected through DAP) to collect stack traces and variable values, so what they report back is evidence you can check. When a tricky problem needs your judgment, the same tools help you catch issues early, work it out faster, and change the code safely.

C and C++ intelligence that actually understands the language

CLion deeply understands your code – from usage and dependency resolution to accurate analysis and precise code exploration in line with the latest standards. Catch problems early, validate what you ship, and keep quality high, no matter how the code was written.

Your agents, your models, your subscriptions

Connect the agents you use and run them on your own API key, the plan you already pay for, or JetBrains AI. Switch subscriptions anytime, even during a session.

An integrated experience for every level of your stack

CLion is built for the full range of C and C++ development with the compilers and build system you already use, on Windows, Linux, and macOS – including remote development and unit testing as part of the core workflow. Whether you're working on embedded systems, firmware, or custom build targets, cross-compilation, on-chip debugging, and hardware-aware tooling are native capabilities, not add-ons.

FAQ

CLion’s Quick start guide shows you how to create and run your first project and introduces the product’s core capabilities. If you are new to CLion, there is a set of interactive courses that can help you get familiar with the essential functionalities.

Moving to CLion doesn't mean rebuilding your setup. Open your existing CMake project, Makefile, or compilation database, and CLion picks up your toolchain. Coming from VS Code, CLion reads the settings in c_cpp_properties.json (and applies any changes you make to it), and you can set up code insight for custom project formats and standalone files, too. Keep your OS, your compiler, and your shortcuts with a familiar keymap. If you have a paid license for a product that competes with CLion, we will give you a 25% discount on a standard commercial or personal subscription.Follow our Quick start guide for step-by-step setup instructions.

Yes. CLion works with the agents you already use, including Codex, GitHub Copilot, Junie, Cursor, and Claude, plus any other ACP-compatible agent. JetBrains Air, now in early access, lets you run several agents in parallel and review their work in one place, right in the IDE.

No. You can use your existing agent subscriptions or BYOK, and JetBrains AI is optional if you already have it or want it.

You can try JetBrains Air at no cost with Junie Lite, JetBrains' efficient coding agent for everyday tasks. You only need to sign in with a JetBrains Account. You can also bring agents you already have, using their own subscriptions.
