Project Planning Checklists

Project checklists are designed to help your team manage the project by setting its goals and deliverables in easy-to-track order visible to project members.

Each checklist can represent a separate part of the project or a major task, breaking it down into specific detailed steps that are checked off as soon as accomplished.

View, search, and filter cheсklists

  1. Navigate to your project.

  2. On the project sidebar menu, choose Checklists:

    All checklists for this project, if any, will be listed:

  3. Click the checklist title to open it.

  4. A checklist can have a nested structure. You can expand and collapse it by clicking the respective buttons:

In case there are a lot of checklists in the progect, you can search and filter them:

  • By owner (the member who created the checklist)

  • By name (the title of the checklist)

  • By tags (if any)

Create and edit a checklist

To create a checklist:

  1. Navigate to your project and choose Checklists from the sidebar.

  2. Click New checklist.

  3. Give your checklist a title, description, and an optional tag.

  4. Click Add new item and type it in. It can be a name and descripton of a planned feature, step, or goal.

    Press Enter to add it to the list.

    To insert an item between existing items, select an item under which you want to place the new one before clicking Add new item.

  5. Repeat the above step for consecutive list items.

    • To make a nested list, highlight the item that should be indented and press Tab, or use the horisontal arrows on the toobar.

    • To move an item up or down the list, highlight the item and use the vertical arrows on the toolbar:

    You can use the keyboard shortcuts to move items around. Click question-shortcuts.png to view the shortcut cheat-sheet.

  6. To edit an item, double-click it.

  7. The list is auto-saved as you create it.

To edit a checklist:

  1. Navigate to your project and choose Checklists from the sidebar.

  2. Click the checklist title to open it.

  3. Double-click an item to edit it.

  4. To add a new item, highlight the item under which you want to add it and click Add new item. To clear the selection, press Esc.

    Type in your item and press Enter to add it to the list.

  5. Repeat the above step for consecutive list items.

Convert a checklist item into an issue

Space integration between Issue tracker and Checklists lets you create an issue out of a checklist item right from the checklist.

This functionality can come handy when you need to make a quick list of tasks, and then convert some of the items to full featured issues, to which a responsible member can be assigned and which progress can be tracked.

To create an issue out of an item

  1. Mouse over the item and click Convert to issue:

    An issue named after the item list will be created in the Issue tracker.

  2. To add details and assign someone to the issue, choose Issues from the sidebar, and open the issue.

Attach an issue to a checklist

In addition to creating your own items, you can add issues that are already listed in the issue tracker.

Just click Attach issue and choose the issue from the list:

Import and export checklists

The Import feature lets you copy a tab-indented line-separated text and convert it into a checklist.

  1. Click Import checklist.

  2. Enter the checklist name and copy the text into the input field:

  3. Click Import.

    A new checklist will be created.

The Export feature lets you convert your checklist into a tab-indented line-separated text and copy-paste it elsewhere.

  1. Open the checklist.

  2. Click the menu icon and choose Export.

  3. Your list will be displayed as plain line-separated text which you can copy.

Delete a checklist

  1. Open the checklist.

  2. Click the menu icon and choose Delete.

  3. Your list will be deleted.
