Connect Jira
Connect Jira so automations can start when something happens in a Jira issue – the issue is created, labeled, assigned, resolved, or commented on. JetBrains Air Teams generates a webhook URL and a secret for your organization, and you register a webhook with those values in Jira.
The connection is organization-wide and covers the Jira instance you register the webhook in. Set it up once, and everyone in the organization can add Jira event triggers to their automations.
Any member of the organization can set up the connection or replace its secret. Creating the webhook on the Jira side needs administrator permissions in Jira.
Jira triggers are enabled per organization. If the Jira section isn't in the Add Trigger menu, they aren't enabled for yours yet – contact support to request access.
Generate the webhook URL and secret in JetBrains Air Teams
Log in to https://air.jetbrains.cloud with your JetBrains Account.
Open the Automations page and start creating or editing an automation – see Create an automation.
Click Add Trigger, select , and select an event.
On the trigger row, click Edit connection.
In the Jira Webhook dialog, click Generate Secret and Webhook URL.
Copy the Webhook URL and the Secret.
Register the webhook in Jira
In the Jira administration settings, open System.
In the menu on the left, under Advanced, select WebHooks.
Click Create a WebHook.
Enter a name for the webhook and set its status to Enabled.
Paste the values you copied from JetBrains Air Teams into the URL and Secret fields.
Select the events to send. Which ones you need depends on the triggers your automations use:
Event in Jira
Triggers it can fire in JetBrains Air Teams
Issue created
Issue labeled with, Issue assigned to, Issue status changed to, Issue priority changed to, and Issue resolved
Issue commented
JetBrains Air Teams receives only the events you select here. If an event isn't selected, the triggers that depend on it never fire, even when the automation itself is set up correctly.
Save the webhook.
For a description of the webhook form itself, see the Jira webhooks documentation.
Rotate the secret
Rotate the secret if it leaks or if you lost the copy you needed for Jira. The new secret replaces the current one for the whole organization.
JetBrains Air Teams then rejects every event still signed with the old secret, so every Jira trigger in the organization stops firing until you update the webhook in Jira. Nothing in JetBrains Air Teams reports this – the automations just never run. Update Jira right after you rotate.
Rotate the webhook secret
In the automation settings, click Edit connection on a Jira trigger row.
Click Rotate Secret and confirm.
Copy the new secret.
In Jira, open the webhook under and replace the secret with the new value.
