Air app
The Air app is the standalone desktop client. It's one of several ways to reach JetBrains Air Teams, and the only one that can run an agent against the project on your own machine.
What the app adds
Local run environments – run a task in your workspace, in a Git worktree, or in a Docker container, where the agent uses your local tools, files, and services. See Run environments.
Your own AI provider accounts – sign in with a Claude, OpenAI, or Google account you already pay for, or connect an API key, and local tasks spend that instead of JetBrains AI credits. Cloud tasks always use the agents your organization enabled. See Supported agents.
Agents you add yourself – any agent that supports the Agent Client Protocol and is installed on your machine. See Add your own agent.
One plan mode for every agent – the app asks any agent to plan before it writes code, including agents with no planning mode of their own, and maps the agents' permission modes onto a common set. See Plan mode and Permission modes.
Review with agent – a built-in review pass with its own review prompt, which you can run with a different agent than the one that wrote the code. See Review with agent.
Review before anything is committed – a local task leaves its work uncommitted, so you can revert it or apply it on your terms. See Review and integrate.
Settings – UI, editor, tools, Git, and account settings, per machine and per workspace. See Settings.
How it connects to JetBrains Air Teams
Sign in with your JetBrains Account and the app works against the same JetBrains Air Teams as the browser. You can start a task in a cloud environment from the app by selecting Cloud as the run environment, and open a task that someone started elsewhere.
Anything organization-wide stays in the browser: projects, automations, environment configurations, connectors, and repository access.
Working without an organization
The app also works on its own. With your own AI provider account and a local run environment, you can run tasks without JetBrains Air Teams and without an organization – you just don't get cloud environments, automations, or anything shared with a team.
